History of CAPG

The Corporate Associates Presidential Group (CAPG) was founded in 2011 following the initiative of ISSMGE President Prof. Jean-Louis Briaud. The aim was to support the activities of the Geotechnical Industry Practitioners within the society and to provide valuable opportunities for them to collaborate with ISSMGE and the global geotechnical community. Since its inception, CAPG has grown steadily and has been involved in various initiatives.

From 2011 to 2013, CAPG developed several initiatives under the chairmanship of Dr. Michael Lisyuk, including a dedicated webpage, promotional case histories, and a small core group of active Corporate Associates.

Between 2013 and 2019, under the leadership of Sukumar Pathmanandavel, and subsequently co-chaired with Dr. Peter Day, from 2019 to 2024, CAPG achieved significant milestones. These included the "Are we overdesigning?" survey, participation in international conferences, and contributions to the ISSMGE Virtual Time Capsule project.

In 2024, the nomination of Dr. Roger Estephan as the new Chairman extends the vision of ISSMGEs current President, Dr. Marc Ballouz, to continue building on CAPG group's efforts by promoting the geotechnical engineering profession, attracting more Corporate Associates members, and enhancing the benefits for CAPG members. The CAPG aims to provide additional opportunities for members to showcase their work and research at international conferences and to recognize their achievements.

Our Vision and Mission

At CAPG, our vision is to foster a collaborative environment where industry leaders, practitioners, and academics come together to drive innovation and excellence in geotechnical engineering.
