    • Francesca Casini is Full Professor of Geotechnics at Università di Roma Tor Vergata, with over two decades of experience in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Her research centres on the thermo-hydro-mechanical behaviour of soils in both saturated and unsaturated conditions, with applications ranging from slope stability to energy geotechnics. She has held two prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships—as both Early Stage and Experienced Researcher—and conducted postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich, focusing on rainfall-induced landslides.
She was awarded the Rita Levi Montalcini grant for young researchers returning to Italy and continues to support innovation in laboratory-scale testing.
Francesca Casini actively contributes to the international geotechnical community: she is a member of the ISSMGE Technical Committee TC106 on Unsaturated Soils and TC308 on Energy Geotechnics, served on the Géotechnique Advisory Panel, and is currently Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.
Her extensive academic, editorial, and professional service background, combined with hands-on experience in the development of specialised experimental apparatuses, demonstrates her strong qualifications to contribute to the design, implementation, and governance of advanced research infrastructure.
