Geowall 2024 Competition

Dear All,

Last month RPI geowall team which I am honored to supervise submitted our deisgn report for the geowall 2024 competition. after initially accepting our report on dec 15 we were shocked to get disqualified on dec 17. The reason was the report length. after following up the detailed reason was including material properties appendix.

quoted from the 2024 geowall rules.

"Formatting requirements:
a) Length shall be a maximum of three (3) pages long (not including references, cover page, safety
appendix or reimbursement appendix). Over-length design reports will not be reviewed and
will be disqualified.
b) One-inch margins, single- spaced, and 12 point Times New Roman font.
c) All pages after the cover page shall contain a header identifying the team and a footer with the
page number.
d) Entire design report must be submitted in a single PDF format file with a filename of
<School Abbreviation>2023GeoWall.pdf."

The guidelines didn't mention that the report will be disqualified because of appendices. matter of fact our 2020 (won the national title), 2022 (qualified to geocongress) and 2023 (initially accepted) had the same appendix and formatting requirements in all 3 years are literally the same as 2024 rules.

We find this decision is harsh and irrational based on the last few years rules and reports we submitted. Therefore, the Civil Engineering department at RPI is considering appealing the report disqualification decision in front of the ASCE board. if you want to join our cause please contact me via email Only
