Sessions will be 3 hours long and will have both presentations and live demos. The participants will also have some “home work” to do in the form of an additional hands on exercise of which the results will be discussed at the beginning of the successive session. Participants are also able to sign in to specific sessions instead of all 4 of them. Details about each session are provided below.
Speakers
- Micha van der Sloot, Manager Technical Support, Geotechnical Bentley Systems, Inc.
- Dennis Waterman, Content Development, Geotechnical Bentley Systems, Inc.
- Stefanos Papavasileiou, Manager, Technical Support, Geotechnical Bentley Systems, Inc.

Session 1 ACCELERATE PLAXIS: Introduction to PLAXIS 2D — Concepts and Structural Elements
Date: Monday, May 18, 2020 (10:00 A.M. CEST)
Session 1 gives an overview of the functionality in PLAXIS. Participants will learn the possibilities of creating a model and defining the construction process. At the end of the session we will look into the use of structural elements.

Session 2 ACCELERATE PLAXIS: Introduction to PLAXIS 2D — Initial Stresses and Groundwater
Date: Wednesday, May 20, 2020 (10:00 A.M. CEST)
In Session 2 we will focus on generating the best possible mesh and also look into the generation of initial stresses. The latter is important to make sure that your project starts from the correct initial stress state.

Session 3 ACCELERATE PLAXIS: PLAXIS 2D Soil Parameters — Parameters for Sand
Date: Monday, May 25, 2020 (10:00 A.M. CEST)
In Session 3 we shift our focus from Plaxis modelling to obtaining correct soil parameters. The Hardening Soil model is introduced and it is explained how the parameter for this model can be obtained specifically for sands from laboratory tests.

Session 4 ACCELERATE PLAXIS: PLAXIS 2D Soil Parameters — Parameters for Clay
Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2020 (10:00 A.M. CEST)
In Session 4 we will look into obtaining parameters for clay materials from oedometer and triaxial tests to be used in the Hardening Soil model. Additionally some attention is given to the importance of undrained behaviour.
