Standard Testing and Engineering Company (Standard Testing) was founded in Oklahoma City in 1951 as a professional engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing. Standard Testing employs approximately 40 highly-trained and experienced people most with college-level and/or specialized technical training. Standard Testing offers many services, including but not limited to the following:
– Geotechnical Engineering
– Construction Materials Testing and Engineering
– Drilling Services
– Structural Steel Inspection
– Prestressed/Precast Concrete Inspection
– Pavement Investigation
– Structural Failure Investigation
Our core staff members have significant personal and professional history in the state of Oklahoma and have developed working relationships with local, state, and federal agencies; local design engineers; and other members of the local construction industry.
Standard Testing and Engineering Company performs geotechnical drilling services. We own and operate our own fleet of two (2) truck-mounted CME55 and one CME55 all wheel drive carrier specialized drilling rigs for Geotechnical Soil and Rock Characterization. We own and operate field exploration equipment which includes electronic piezocone and pressure meter in addition to hollow stem auger, wet rotary, and rock coring equipment.
Standard Testing and Engineering Company (Standard Testing) is also recognized as a qualified Veteran-Owned, Small Business.
In the geotechnical engineering and materials testing business, overall qualifications and specific competencies in performing tests are most reliably demonstrated by (1) professional licensure and (2) accreditation by recognized accreditation authorities.
ACCREDITATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Standard Testing and Engineering Company holds a certificate of authorization (CA#77) from the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and currently has four (4) licensed professional engineers on full-time staff.
Each of Standard Testing’s three laboratories in Oklahoma holds various combinations of accreditation and/or validation for soils, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt testing by the AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP), the International Conference of Building Code Officials’ (IAS) International Accreditation Services program, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ validation program. A current listing of our AAP accreditations is included with this packet.
Standard Testing participates in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) proficiency program. This program includes inter-laboratory testing of aggregate and concrete. Air content, slump, unit weight, and compressive strength of reference samples are tested by us and the results sent to CCRL for statistical comparison with results from other laboratories.
Standard Testing also participates in the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory programs for laboratory testing of soils/aggregate and asphalt. Soil/aggregate proficiency testing is conducted in liquid and plastic (Atterberg) limits of soils, particle size analysis, specific gravity of soils, moisture-density relationship using standard effort (standard Proctor), and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests. Asphalt testing includes the traditional suite of asphalt testing for construction quality control. Standard Testing has maintained outstanding ratings in both of these programs
QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL
As part of Standard Testing’s overall Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program, major testing equipment, such as concrete cylinder compression machines, load measuring equipment, and applicable soil testing equipment, is calibrated by outside agencies annually. Certifications issued by the calibration agencies are traceable to the appropriate National Institute of Standards and Technologies reference standards. Calibration certificates are on file and available for review
Documentation of Standard Testing’s internal calibrations are also available. All tests are conducted in accordance with the appropriate test methods as established by recognized standards agencies. Technician training/certification and rigorous internal review and tracking procedures are utilized to ensure test results are accurate and timely.
Employees are encouraged to seek continuing education and training through local technical training institutes. When the opportunity exists, Standard Testing provides intensive technical training through both in-house programs and external sources, including ODOT’s Highway Construction Materials Modules for Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, and Aggregates, and American Concrete Institute’s continuing education courses.
