UTAD’s mission is focused on teaching, research and extension. The University is organized in 5 Schools: Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Sciences and Technology, Life Sciences and Environment and the Nursing School.
The permanent teaching staff of 548 teachers (414 PhD) and 440 technical and administrative staff supports about 7808 students, distributed over 37 graduate courses (1st cycle) and about 89 post-graduate courses (2nd cycle and PhD).
Research activities are concentrated in eight Research Centres: Centre for Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Centre for Research and Technology of Agro-Environment and Biological Sciences, Centre for Development and Transdisciplinary Studies, Center of Genomics and Biotechnology (part of an Associate laboratory - Institute of Biotechnology and Bioengineering), Centre for Studies in the Letters, Centre for Chemistry, Centre of Mathematic Studies, and the Centre for Sports, Health and Human Development. This Research Units have duplicated the scientific production of “refereed” papers (SCI) during the last 3 years. Research Units accommodate researchers from other institutions in Portugal and abroad.
Connections with SME’s have seen a gradual increase in the last few years, as well as an increase in the number of scholarships. UTAD has a wide portfolio of projects (financed nationally and internationally) with high activity and relevance in all its research areas.
