A ABMS é uma associação técnico-científica sem fins lucrativos, de grande tradição na engenharia brasileira, que conta atualmente com cerca de mil associados. Fundada em 1950, a ABMS congrega no Brasil os profissionais geotécnicos que atuam em Mecânica dos Solos, Mecânica de Rochas, Mecânica dos Pavimentos, Fundações, Barragens, Escavações, Túneis, Mineração, Geossintéticos, Geotecnia Ambiental, Aterros Sanitários, Geomecânica do Petróleo, e demais atividades da Engenharia Geotécnica.
The ABMS is a non-profit technical and scientifical association, traditional in brazilian engineering, with is composed by about thousand users. Funded in 1950, the ABMS assembles the geotechnical professionals in Brazil, with works with Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, Pavements, Foundations, Dams, Excavations, Tunnels, Mining, Geosynthetics, Enrironmental Engineering, Landfills, Petroleum, and other areas of Geotechnical Engineering.

O Núcleo Regional Nordeste da ABMS representa os estados de Pernambuco, Paraíba, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Ceará and Piauí. O Núcleo Nordeste promove eventos pelo Nordeste do Brasil e incentiva a interação entre Universidades, professionais, estudantes e empresas.
The Northeast Region Committee of ABMS, represents the states of Pernambuco, Paraíba, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Ceará and Piauí. The Northeast Comitee promotes events around the northeast region of Brazil and the liason between Universities, professionals, students and companies.
