An active full professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, specialized in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering. Professor Soroush is well known for his expertise in dam engineering, Tunneling and slope stability.
Dr. A. Soroush is currently a professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), one of the high ranking universities in Iran. He was elected as the chair of the department and served in this position for more than 4 years from 2000 to 2005.
Dr. Soroush has given a variety of university courses and lectures in the undergraduate level (Embankment Dams, Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering [Lectured in English for students of the University of Birmingham], Foundation Engineering, Technical English for Civil Engg), and in the graduate level (Advanced Soil Mechanics I, Advanced Soil Mechanics II, Earth Dams, Continuum Mechanics, Finite Elements, and Soil Plasticity)
Dr. Soroush has supervised more than 80 MSc and 8 PhD students.
He has delivered three invited keynote lectures in 15ARC, Hong Kong, 2011; Indian Geotechnical Conference, Kochi, 2011; and 1st International conference of hydropower and dams, Tehran, 2011.
He has presented several papers and lectures in English in international and national conferences and seminars.
Dr. Soroush has been a member (as the chairman and secretary) of 10 international review expert panels for large dams. Some of his prominent colleagues in the panels were: Professor N. R. Morgenstern (Canada), Professor W. Wittke, (Germany), Professor J Brauns (Germany), Professor A. Schleiss (Switzerland), Professor P. Marinos (Greece), Professor Karl Ewert (germany), Professor Milanovic (Serbia), Professor E. Raeisi (Iran) and Professor A. Ghahramani (Iran). He had the privilege and honor to compile the reports of all of the panel experts, including himself, and finalize the reports before submission to the client.
Professor Soroush has authored and co-authored 45 journal papers in high ranking journals and presented 80 papers in international and national conferences.
Dr. Soroush was elected as the president of the Iranian Geotechnical Society (IGS) in February 2008 and he served in this position till 2015. During this period, He established interactive relationships with the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, ISSMGE, and its Asian Societies.
Having established close relationships with the dam industry both in national and international levels, Dr. Soroush was a member of the Executive Board of the Iranian National Committee on Large Dams (IRCOLD), as a national member of ICOLD, from 2006 till 2014.
Dr. Soroush is very active in research and has been granted several funds by the university and the industry, including Dam Engineering, Petroleum Infrastructures and Road Industry.
