The researcher initiated her career, in 1987, working in hydrogeology, geochemistry and aquifer contamination, as a young researcher. In 1988, she changed from Faculdade de Ciências de Lisboa – Universidade de Lisboa to the Department of Geotechnics (DG) / Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC).
In 1990, LNEC decided to increase the knowledge of the researcher in the geotechnical area. By this way, the researcher has done a master in engineering geology, to acquire more skills related with DG. She worked for several years in seismic engineering and geotechnical stability problems; passing by the assurance control of tunnels, among other subjects.
In 1994, she embarked on the soil contamination area, returning to the environmental theme, already in a perspective of environmental geotechnics. Since then, she has acquired competences in geoenvironmental engineering and environmental geotechnics related with sites for waste disposal, soil contamination research, environmental management, rehabilitation of degraded and contaminated sites, environmental management and rehabilitation of old mining sites, and risk analysis (environment, slope stability and urbanism - soil occupation).
In January of 2016, the researcher got in the Hydraulics and Environment Department of LNEC. In October of the same year she was transferred to the Advisory Group of Board of Directors. In May of 2023 she returned to DG.
