    • Senior Project Engineer; Eastern North America Energy Market Lead

    • Chris Nelsen has seven years of geotechnical engineering experience rooted in the practical application of technical knowledge earned while working first for a geotechnical contractor and now as an underground infrastructure design consultant. He is also skilled in site investigation, soil and rock characterization, support of excavation design, and tunnel construction impact analyses. Chris is also engaged in industry-wide efforts to improve the sustainability of infrastructure projects through the ISI framework as an Envision Sustainable Professional (ENV SP), in the redevelopment of the EFFC-DFI Carbon Calculator, and supporting development of several industry sustainability guides. Chris joined Delve Underground after three years as a field/project engineer for a large geostructural and ground improvement contractor. He brings a wealth of field experience to streamline communication and collaboration between project owners, designers, contractors, operators, and inspectors.

Chris completed his Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering in the Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin. His research was focused on the mechanisms and behaviors that contribute to the performance of geocell-reinforced soils, but his academic interests include geosynthetics, dynamic site characterization, remote sensing, and underground construction among many other subjects.

Chris graduated from Lafayette College in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and concentration in Geotechnical Engineering. He gained experience in the practice of geotechnical engineering during a 3-month internship at Kleinfelder in Exton, PA with valuable time spent doing field work, lab testing, design calculations, and report writing.
