  • SRK Consulting : ( 01/05/2013 - 01/02/2016 )

    • SRK Consulting – Geotechnical Project Engineer- Open pit mining
Sishen - Open Pit Risk Study - (06/2014 – 02/2016): Summary: I carried out the Geotechnical
analysis to facilitate the approval of the practical pit and to initiate the mining scheduling of the Sishen
reserve. I performed the slope stability analysis with the SLIDE/PHASE2 software and completed all the
Geotechnical tasks, including the budget control and report writing.
      Achievement:

I completed the entire geotechnical risk study for the Sishen mine, considering the economic and safety impacts of the design slope angle.

Thabazimbi – Rockfall Analysis - (07/2015 – 12/2015): Summary: I carried out the 3-dimensional rockfall analysis with the Trajec3D software on Sovereign hill. I categorised the hazards with the Analytical Hierarchy Process and delineated the vulnerable regions at the foot of the hill.
      Achievement:

My analyses successfully identified the critical Rockfall paths that facilitated the risk mitigation strategies for the mine closure.

Camutue – Retaining Wall Design- (02/2016 – 02/2016): Summary: I carried out the internal and external retaining wall analysis and design. I design the 18m reinforced earth retaining wall to include primary geosynthetic elements and secondary gabion baskets.
      Achievement:

My analyses successfully identified the most cost-efficient and sustainable retaining wall option governed by the construction constraints and stringent budget.

Kolomela – Geotechnical Data Analysis - (08/2015 –02/2016): Summary: I carried out the analysis of laboratory testing and borehole logging data to estimate the rock mass and rock discontinuities strength parameters. Additionally, the scope included the categorization of the statistical data into respective domains and the recommendation of further data acquisition locations

      Achievement:

The primary objectives of the study will be to construct a geotechnical design data confidence map for the Heuningkrans, Kapstevel, Klipbanfontein and Leeuwfontein pits.

Sishen – Haulage Road Design - (10/2014 – 02/2015): Summary: I carried out the numerical analysis to determine the structural competence of the haulage road material. I also analysed the bearing capacity of the expansible clay layer and the associated effects on the slope stability.
      Achievement:

I completed the finite element analyses to illustrate the in-situ plastic deformation and determine the stability of the clay layer.

Kimberley Big Hole - Break-back analysis of pit crest (07/2013 – 05/2014): Summary: I assessed the slope stability of the pit walls adjacent to the infrastructure. I defined the mechanism of failure contributing to the break-back process and the failure mechanisms in the respective pit domains. Achievements:

I identified the slake durability and structural orientation as the main break-back inducers.

I proposed a qualitative risk solution to the client with the associated pit break-back contours.
