Gavin has over 30 years’ international experience in the geotechnical field, with wide ranging involvement across the infrastructure, buildings and industrial sectors in New Zealand, Australia, much of Asia and the UK. As practice leader and Technical Director in Beca’s Geotechnical Engineering group over more than 20 years, he has led single and multi-discipline teams on many large-scale, high profile and complex projects. His passion for collaboration and ability to apply past experiences to solve new challenges, means his inputs are highly valued at all stages of the projects he works on. He is regularly sought out as an independent reviewer for large and geotechnically complex projects.
Gavin’s Master’s degree in soil mechanics and engineering seismology was obtained from one of the most highly regarded universities in his field, and he continues to employ the results of those studies in his ongoing technical work. His training has provided a sound understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, methods and solutions.
Gavin demonstrates a high level of commitment to his profession. In addition to being a Chartered Professional Engineer, he is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), a Fellow of IPENZ, and was Chair of the NZ Geotechnical Society from 2013 to 2015.
