    • Piers is a Coastal, Estuarine and Marine Geoscientist of 25 years experience, with skills in the geology, sedimentology, oceanography and the history, physical dynamics and development of coastal and marine environments. This experience was gained initially in UK and Australian university-based scientific research, especially on the Great Barrier Reef shelf, where work included pioneering studies of turbidity at coral reefs, sedimentation in mangrove systems, sediment dispersion along the continental shelf and Holocene sea-level changes. He has worked in a range of technical and advisory roles, for business and government, in Australia and the UK. His work has included providing strategic, environmental and technical advice to support engineering design for proposed new coastal power stations in the UK, and technical advice on processes influencing turbidity and sediment transport on the shelf off NW Australia in relation to the design of offshore facilities. Currently Piers aids RPS’ provision of integrated technical services for major marine projects in Australasia, and promotes uptake of physical and sedimentary science into environmental, engineering, archaeological and regulatory work.
