Prof. (Dr.) B. A. Mir, Ph.D., C. Engg (I), F.InSc , HF.IMRF, SEFM, MASCE (USA), P.Engg (UK), is a Distinguished Professor and PG Head Geotechnical Engineering Division in the Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology Srinagar, Kashmir (J&K), obtained his Ph.D. (Geotech. Engg) from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, M.E. (Geotech. Engg) from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and M. B. A. from the Institute of Chartered Managers, IAS Academy Chennai. Over the last 30 years, Dr. Mir, an established teacher, researcher, and active consultant has conducted extensive research on various aspects of geotechnical engineering. Dr. Mir has published more than 150 research papers in international journals and conferences and he is the recipient of many Best Paper Awards. Dr. has authored a book titled: Manual of Geotechnical Laboratory Soil Testing published by CRC Press (Taylor & Francis), which was released in the month of Oct. 2021. Dr. Mir has traveled to many countries abroad including Australia, Bangkok (Thailand), China, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Tunisia, and United Kingdom (UK) and presented his research papers. Dr. Mir has also chaired technical sessions in international conferences abroad and in India. His research areas include prediction of soil behavior, constitutive modeling, ground improvement, foundation engineering, reinforced soils, critical state soil mechanics, environmental geotechnics, characterization of expansive soils and fly ash, characterization of highway materials, and engg. geology. Dr. Mir is also an active journal reviewer and advisory board member for various journals such as Ground Improvement, ICE–UK, GEGE Springier, Geotechnique–UK, IJGE–Ross Pub. USA, Geomate–Japan. Dr. Mir is also an active member of various scientific and professional societies and holds membership of Sr. M. IEEE (Delhi Section), MASCE (USA), MISSMGE (UK), MICE (UK), LMIGS, LMISTE, LMISCMS, LMISWE, LMICI, LMISRMTT, LMIE, C.Engg (I), UACSE (USA), and P.Engg (UK). Dr. Mir has provided consultancy services to more than 150 projects of national importance of various government and private agencies. Dr. Mir is also Hon. Secretary, IGS Srinagar Chapter and Dean Planning & Development Wing NIT Srinagar. Dr. Mir is also representing India as a technical committee (TC 216) member on “Frost Geotechnics” of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) for the years 2022–2025.
