    • Silvana Montoya received the B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes, the M.Sc. degree in Soil Mechanics from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (France) and the Ph.D. degree in Engineering from the École Centrale de Paris (France). She is an associate profesor at Universidad EAFIT, she teaches under- and graduate courses in the Civil Engineering department, and is a researcher at the Applied Mechanics research group in subjects related to seismic risk, constitutive modeling of soils and soil-structure interaction. Furthermore, she has participated in several activities with the Universidad de los Niños and is the faculty representative at the Cátedra abierta latinoamericana Matilda y las Mujeres en Ingeniería.
Currently, she is part of the research group in Applied Mechanics, where her research in mainly focused on natural risks and their computational modeling. Particularly, she works on the nonlinear effect on the site response assessment, also known as site effects. Other research interests include seismic liquefaction, soil-structure interaction, seismic risk analysis and variability and uncertainty in soil characterization.
Her teaching interests include methodologies on active learning, project based and team base learning. She teaches IC0270 Applied Soil Mechanics, for 6th semester in B.S. Civil Engineering, and IC0622 Slope Stability for first semester master degrees in Soil Mechanics and Foundations, Road design and Pavements, and Seismic Resilience Engineering. In addition, she is currently the coordinator of the Engineering Doctorate program.
