Eng. Abdullah A. Bogshan Endowed Chair in Expansive Soils The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering at King Saud University, Riyadh Saudi Arabia is seeking an outstanding faculty to fill the inaugural Eng. Abdullah A. Bogshan Endowed Chair in expansive soils. Appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor although exceptional applicants at the advanced assistant professor level are encouraged to apply. This is a 3-year appointment and may be renewable for additional years upon favorable performance reviews. King Saud University is located in Riyadh, the Capital of Saudi Arabia, one of the fastest growing cities in the Middle East region. The university is a comprehensive university with an enrollment of over 65,000 students, with approximately 4600 students in the College of Engineering. The civil engineering department is the largest in the country with an enrollment of about 900 students. Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited school and shall have a distinguished record of achievement in the areas of expansive soils, including published research and extramural funding as well as a strong interest, competence, and commitment to excellence in research and expected to publish in leading scholarly journals during his tenure. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates are sought with expertise and a distinguished record of achievement in the areas of experimental and analytical studies of soil behavior, suction-controlled triaxial testing of unsaturated soils, molecular interactions between clays and fluids, physico-chemical phenomena in soils, soil-structure interactions, and constitutive modeling. Applicants with interests & proven expertise in non-traditional areas (e.g. nanotechnology, clay nanocomposites) are especially encouraged. The successful candidate will be a member of the Scientific Committee that overviews the Chair activities, and will join a team dedicated to forward-looking research, and as such an interest in collaborative research and a willingness to interact with other researchers are highly desirable.
