Geotechnical Engineer (Intermediate)


The London, Ontario office has an opening for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join the Geotechnical Engineering Services Group. As a Project Manager, you will work with junior to senior geotechnical colleagues on a variety of geotechnical engineering projects, principally related to transportation (bridges, high fill embankments, retaining walls), municipal services (roadways, sewers and water mains) and land development (foundation design for residential, commercial and industrial development). Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to, the following: Managing a variety of geotechnical engineering projects, including work plan and budget preparation and monitoring, supervision and mentoring of junior colleagues, management of sub-consultants and sub-contractors and client liaison; Ensuring quality control/quality assurance of field work, field data analysis and interpretation, and engineering calculations; Writing high quality geotechnical engineering reports; Preparing proposals and design work packages in response to client requests; Ensuring client satisfaction, including maintaining existing good client relationships and developing new ones; Using safe work practices in accordance with our site specific Health & Safety Plans; Managing projects according to client-approved scopes of work and delivering high quality reports on time and within budget; Assist with other project work as required. This position will initially involve working under the supervision of senior team members, with the opportunity to rapidly assume increasing autonomy and responsibility. The ideal candidate will have the following background and qualifications: Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; A minimum of 4 years of geotechnical project experience (post-degree) working in a consulting engineering environment at an intermediate project management level; Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario; Experience or aptitude for proposal development, project management, client development, working in a team setting against tight deadlines, and other skills appropriate to consulting; Proven capabilities in planning and supervising geotechnical investigations; A positive, people-oriented attitude, a willingness to learn, and good teamwork skills; Be well versed in risk assessment and general Health & Safety requirements; Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; Must have a valid driver's licence, reliable vehicle with appropriate registration and insurance; and Be available for local and international business travel and extended working hours when required.
