About the Opportunity SGS Canada has 60 openings for Geotechnologists to work full time and on contract (6-months) in Fort McMurray, Alberta. In this active role, your main responsibility will be to carry out standard tasks in the lab and/or at project sites. More specifically, your duties will be centered around material testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, piling, and compaction. Working under the supervision of senior personnel, your day-to-day responsibilities will include: Performing core sampling, receiving, permeability testing, capping and breaking concrete cylinders, and completing moisture contents, standard proctors (moisture-density relationship), wash sieve analyses, and asphalt Marshall mix analyses; Completing concrete testing (air and slump test, cast compressive strength cylinders), compaction testing (nuclear moisture-density gauge) and aggregate production monitoring (field sieve analysis); Maintaining lab protocols (upkeeping the laboratory and maintaining equipment), and following HSE/CSA/ASTM procedures; Completing field and laboratory records for all completed tests and daily activities; Assisting on geotechnical related projects, such as field drilling investigations, instrumentation installation, and foundation installation monitoring; and Working on other ad hoc projects as assigned. To apply for this role, you will need: A Civil Engineering Technology Diploma/Certificate OR Soil/Concrete Short Courses; At least 2 years of related field experience; A driver's license with a clean driver's abstract (for the last 3 years); Knowledge of using a Nuclear Densometer; and CSTS/ OSSA training certificates. In this role, you will work diligently to immediately report any incidents/accidents/near-misses to the supervisor. You also perform all tasks in the safest manner possible, and enjoy participating in training meetings to ensure you're up to speed with new and current safety protocols. You will do well in this role if are computer savvy, and proficient in using software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. We want to speak with you if you're flexible, and team oriented but can also work independently when required. You must be a physically fit individual and able to lift up to 50 pounds. As a Geotechnologist, you will have the freedom of a flexible schedule (10 days on, 4 days off). Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic, and must be willing to pick up overtime hours to accommodate high work volumes.
