The use of Proctor Penetrometer Test


We just purchased the Proctor Penetrometer tool set for field in situ density tests but it didn't come with a brochure and the supplier cannot help. Please we would want to know the testing procedure, the procedure for processing and interpretation of the data. Thank you.

The Proctor needle is used along with the proctor compaction test and its easy to do.  There are ASTM procedures I can cite for you or I could send you copies of USBR Earth Manual procedures for free.  my email is [email protected]

The data show the stiffness of the soil under a standard compactive effort at different mositure contacts.  In the old days Proctor prefeered to use the needle in the field.  The typical pressures at optimum of 200-400 psi are what we design the sheepsfoot compactor foot pressure to exert.  Higher pressure are dry of optimum and can reach 10^3 psi.  Wet of optimum is very low...
