Dear Colleague!

Greetings from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), an Institute of Eminence of the Government of India, established in 1958 with the support received from the then USSR. IITB ranked 47th globally in Engineering and Technology of QS 2023 rankings. Nationally and internationally, IITB has contributed to various path-breaking research, especially in the field of engineering and technology. Apart from research, IITB is involved in developing guidelines and policies for various government bodies. These efforts resulted in the establishment of several Centres of Excellence in the key areas of research for the 21st century, such as Oil, Gas and Energy, Carbon Capture and Utilization, Nanoelectronics, Membrane Technology for Desalination, Brine Management and Water Recycling, Steel Technology, etc. with the help of academia, industry, and government partnership to enhance the interaction of top executives, researchers, and administrators of the country.

Civil Engineering Department (CED) is one of the oldest programs at IITB, serving the needs of society through knowledge sharing and guiding people in infrastructure development and materials and water management. In this context, keeping in view the needs of society in the post-industrialization and urbanization era, cutting-edge research is being carried out by the faculties of CED.

I have been associated with CED, and IITB, since 1994 and am trying to address some of the key issues being faced by the Geotechnical Engineering Profession under the theme of Environmental Geotechnology. My efforts have resulted in the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory, the Environmental Geotechnology Laboratory, the Journal of Environmental Geotechnics, and a virtual center, CeGeRIn.

However, to accelerate this process of providing solutions to society, the exchange of knowledge and ideas is a must. As a pioneer in the field of Environmental Geotechnology, it will be my pleasure to invite you to participate in a brainstorming workshop at IIT Bombay during December 4-6, 2023.

Kindly visit the following website and let me know whether you will be interested in participating in this event for which lodging and local hospitality will be provided by IIT Bombay.
