Discussion Topic : Bright Spark Lecture Award - Asia

We are pleased to announce Anthony Leung and Ching Hung have been selected as the recipient of ISSMGE Asia Bright Spark Lecture award.  They have given their Bright Spark Lecture at the conference in Taipei, on 17 October 2019.

Here are their biography:

Anthony Leung

Prof Anthony Leung is an Assistant Professor and the Associate Director of the Geotechnical Centrifuge Facility at the HKUST. Prior to his appointment at HKUST in 2018, Prof Leung was a Senior Lecturer and had been working in the Discipline of Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee, UK for five years. His expertise is unsaturated soil mechanics, root biomechanics and soil-vegetation-structure interaction. He is a co-author of the book, "Plant-Soil Slope Interaction", published by Talylor & Francis. Prof. Leung is a Principle Investigator of multiple research projects including those funded by the Research Grant Council (RGC)/Hong Kong, Engineering, Physics and Science Research Council (EPSRC)/UK, and European Commission. He is the awardee of the “International award for innovations in unsaturated soil mechanics”. Prof Leung is active in the geotechnical research community. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of the ISSMGE and a committee member of TC106 (Unsaturated Soil). He is serving the Editorial Boards of multiple international journals, including (i) Canadian Geotechnical Journal, (ii) Landslides, (iii) ICE, Geotechnical Engineering Journal and (iv) ICE, International Journal of Physical modelling in Geotechnics.

Ching Hung

 

Ching Hung is currently an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and the Director of IISD-OIA at the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). In 2018, he has been recognized for extraordinary promise in his early career development and was awarded the Young Scholar Fellowship (approx. 1.2M US dollar for a 5-year period), funded by the MOST and MoE, Taiwan. He served as Visiting Scholars at Kyoto University (DPRI) and Stanford University in Summer 2018 and Winter 2019, respectively. He has served as a Lead Guest Editor and EBM for various quality and SCI-indexed Journals, and has edited Special Issues on investigating and documenting geohazards as well as large-scale landslides. Dr. Hung received his PhD in Geomechanics from Columbia University in 2013. During his study, he has been awarded the Scholarship from the MoE, Taiwan, the NASA National Space Grant Fellowship, the NSF Student Fellowship, and the ISSMGE Foundation Grant.
