Discussion Topic : Greece Launches New Young Geotechnical Engineers Network

As part of the ongoing series of updates published in the YMPG News section to highlight young member initiatives from ISSMGE societies around the world, the Hellenic Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (HSSMGE) has shared a recent development from Greece.

HSSMGE has invited students and young geotechnical engineers up to 35 years old to participate in the formation of a new Young Geotechnical Engineers Network, which will operate under the auspices of the Executive Committee of the Society.

The initiative is addressed to undergraduate and postgraduate students from relevant engineering departments, as well as young professionals in geotechnical engineering, and aims to strengthen the participation of early-career members within the geotechnical community in Greece.

According to HSSMGE, the main objectives of the network include:

  • promoting educational and training activities in geotechnical engineering,
  • organizing seminars, workshops, and site visits,
  • facilitating networking and access to professional opportunities related to geotechnical engineering, and
  • strengthening the involvement of young members within the geotechnical community in Greece.

An open call for expressions of interest has already been announced through an online participation form in Greek.

This initiative represents an important step in encouraging greater engagement of young geotechnical engineers at national level, while also contributing to broader international interaction within the ISSMGE Young Members community.

The YMPG is pleased to continue sharing news from member societies worldwide and looks forward to following the development of this new network in Greece.
