The ISSMGE Young Member Presidential Group is pleased to highlight the active participation of the Sudanese Young Members community, represented through the Sudanese Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, at the Third International Workshop on the Future of Machine Learning in Geotechnics (FOMLIG 2025), held in Florence, Italy, from 15-17 October 2025.
Through the involvement of its young members, including Mohammed Al-Ajamee, the Sudanese group took part in an international event that brought together more than 160 delegates from 28 countries, including over 60 young engineers and researchers, with more than 70 technical presentations exploring the future of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and large language models in geotechnical engineering.
FOMLIG 2025 offered an inspiring environment for learning, exchange, and connection across academia and industry. The program included keynote lectures, the GEO-AI Distinguished Lecture, ISSMGE Bright Spark Lectures, technical sessions, and interactive activities that reflected the fast-growing role of digital technologies in geotechnical practice.
It is encouraging to see the YMPG Sudan community engaged in international discussions on innovation, research, and the future of the profession. Participation in events like FOMLIG helps strengthen connections across borders and reinforces the important role of young engineers in shaping the next generation of geotechnical engineering.
We congratulate the Sudanese Young Members group for this involvement and for continuing to contribute to the global geotechnical community.
