BMI Group has won the Waste Recycling Industry Association Queensland (WRIQ) 2026 Environmental Innovation of the Year Award for its Environmental Risk Management Transformation, which included the implementation of ESdat.

The project replaced spreadsheet-based records with a centralized environmental database, bringing together information from across BMI's sites and environmental monitoring locations. This has made complex environmental data easier to access, analyze, and manage.

The transformation has improved data quality, strengthened trend analysis, and increased confidence in compliance, while reducing the time and effort required to manage environmental information.

For the ESdat team, the recognition is particularly meaningful. The BMI team was so pleased with the implementation that it nominated the project for the award and credited everyone involved in delivering the transformation.

WRIQ's Environmental Innovation of the Year Award spotlights innovations driving positive change in waste management, recycling, and circular economy practices. BMI's achievement demonstrates the practical value of improving how environmental information is managed and used.
