The ESdat 5.1 release commenced rollout this week, starting with ESdat Online and continuing across our hosted and on-site clients throughout the month.
Driven by user feedback and real-world workflow needs, this release delivers improved configuration and profile management, practical Field App refinements for fully electronic eCOCs, enhancements to Trend Analysis, addition of Logger Data Calculations, and a set of usability and bulk editing tools that reduce manual effort across common environmental data tasks.
Main functional improvements
Configuration management: Some Organizations have reported a rapid increase in the following listings:
- Chem Profiles.
- Chem Table Layouts.
- QA Profiles.
ESdat 5.1 introduces dedicated Admin Screens that manage Owners and view creation information. While Admin and Scheduler users can still create new items, the new screens facilitate more user collaboration and add transparency to prompt internal conversations, such as why these new listings are needed and who is responsible for them. Owners can also be assigned to the listings above to restrict editing rights where required.
Field App
This release continues to improve the electronic chain of custody (eCoC) files while removing the need to write on containers and coolboxes. Key improvements include:
- Better barcode detection for lab container scanning on iPhone (Android barcode scanning continues to perform strongly).
- An onscreen preview button so users can view the completed eCOC before finalizing it.
- Barcode values are shown in the app for easy visual confirmation.
- A range of general usability improvements to speed workflow and reduce errors.
Logger data
Logger data can now be processed with calculations. The workflow supports:
- Piezometric pressure measurements.
- Atmospheric pressure corrections.
- Automated offset corrections to align logger values with manual dip measurements.
The main use case is converting piezometric pressure measurements into water depth or elevation. It's important to note that this feature is initially available only as part of an implementation service.
Updated Visuals and Features
ESdat 5.1 brings some updated visual features as follows:
- The Graphing engine has been updated for improved usability (previous charts remain available temporarily via an option).
- Users can apply custom color palettes for lines/series in graphs, as well as saved color palettes for their Chem Tables' guidelines. This allows consistent colors to be applied from report to report.
- The Mann-Kendall now displays the p-value alongside other statistics for more precise, faster interpretation.
Productivity boosts: bulk edits, grid controls, and data handling
Large datasets have become easier to manage thanks to several new grid and bulk tools:
- Update: All available in the DMM data grid to copy a value to all other rows, to make bulk updates of values easier for large datasets.
- Delete: All removes all data loaded into a grid (User Permissions and other checks dependent).
- Multiple EQL values, Chem Tables, and Duplicate tables now show min/max EQL when multiple values exist.
Other workflow improvements
Other practical updates in 5.1 include the following:
- Location Coordinates can now be bulk imported in a mix of Lat/Long or UTM coordinates for the same site.
- Lab report comments can now be added independently of approval/rejection actions.
- ESdat Server customers can now display their organization's logo on the login page, and regional login graphics (USA, Canada, Australia/NZ, UK/Ireland) for ESdat Online instances.
What this means for teams
For teams managing monitoring programs, compliance reporting, or large chemistry datasets, the improvements in ESdat 5.1 aim to save time, reduce errors, and standardize outputs across projects.
